In early 1960s, raising pigs is the major sideline job in the rural areas of Pingtung districts. The mayor of Pingtung County during that time, Feng-hsu Chang, in cooperation with governmental officials, promoted processed animal farming in order to stimulate the local economy, increase farmers' income and improve their livelihood. The county government, along with local influential groups and people including the former Chairman of Kaohsiung City Council, Mr. Tien-mao Chen, took an active role in visiting Japan to negotiate with the local businesses. Given hardship and difficulties during the process, modernized meat processed plant— Taiwan Farm Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as T-Ham) was established in 1967 in a form of Taiwan-Japan joint venture.
In July of the following year, T-Ham successfully extended its reach to the Japanese market with its frozen meat products, marking the first modernized frozen meat product plant in Taiwan, which has secured itself a solid foothold in Japan. The successful deployment in Japan solved hardships of over-production along with weak sales in Taiwan's pork market, while at the same time increased famers' income. On the other hand, the increased sales also enhanced the breeding technology and bolstered exports of frozen pork. In doing so, trade between Taiwan and Japan increased and was made more balanced.
Since September 1968,T-Ham has started to produce processed food products including western style hams, sausages, and smoked meat, and sell them to the local market. In the same year, T-Ham has continued to work with businesses and dealers to establish stores in numerous cities to provide better services to the consumers. There are currently 15 dealers in Taiwan, which already joined T-Ham's partnership. Due to T-Ham's continuous commitments to quality and taste, the business and sales continue to grow and prosper.
